Therapeutic Interchange Management
Therapeutic Interchange Management (TIC) lets practices choose preferred medicines within similar drug groups and set rules based on insurance requirements. These rules help make sure medication orders match what the insurance plan will approve. Providers can still choose a different medicine if needed, as long as they explain why.
This tool helps reduce extra work, denied claims, and delays by making sure the right medicine is chosen the first time. It also makes the ordering process easier to understand and more efficient. Practices can manage settings in Manage > Therapeutic Interchange, and icons on regimen orders show when a setting has been applied and when a provider makes an override to that setting.
When are TIC practice settings evaluated in the patient regimen order entry workflow?
Practice‑level TIC settings are evaluated at two points during order entry:
When a regimen template is selected and the patient regimen order is generated in the patient’s chart.
When a saved draft regimen order is activated for entry.
Which orders in a regimen do TIC settings apply to?
TIC settings apply only to orders marked as Optional in the regimen template.
Optional orders can be checked or unchecked by the user and are eligible for Therapeutic Interchange.
Required orders cannot be checked or unchecked by the user and are not eligible for Therapeutic Interchange. These orders must remain exactly as defined in the regimen template
