About EPCS Registration

Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) is a way for prescribers to securely send prescriptions for controlled medications (Schedule II-V) to a pharmacy electronically instead of on paper or by fax. EPCS registration is required for all prescribers who have a DEA license, even if they do not prescribe controlled substances.

This guide walks you through the one-time registration process, including DEA-required identity proofing and two-factor authentication with an Identity Proofing Provider.

EPCS registration has several high-level steps. The provider performs most of the steps and an iKnowMed administrator at your practice performs a couple.

We encourage you to complete these steps in one sitting, which usually takes about 20 minutes to perform.
